Education
He was trained by Hakutei Ishii, noted oil painter, and at the Hongo Art Studios in Tokyo. Stayed in France from 1921 until 1929, studying under Henri Matisse.
Career
Back in Japan, he belonged to the Shunyokai and Nika Art Societies. Appointed assistant professor at the Tokyo Fine Art School. Wrote books Matisse and Courbet. ain (1950).
