From 1877 studied at Lazarev Institute of Oriental Languages, Moscow. 1888 graduate History and Philology Faculty, Moscow University.
1888 returned to Armenian 1888-1912 taught Russian language and general lit at Echmiadzin Theological Academy. 1912 moved to Baku; 1918 during the Baku Commune, directed Baku City Education Department.
From 1922 worked for Legislative Commission, Arm Council of People's Commissar, and for Institute compiling dictionaries and developing terminology. Helped establish Soviet regime in Armenian Translated: Homer, Pushkin, Nekrasov, Yakubovich, Mickiewicz, Goethe, Schiller, Heine and other poets.
