This volume provides a brief introduction to the basic principles of coordination chemistry of transition metals. The easy-to-understand text reviews the data on toxicity, biological activity and antitumor properties of organometallic compounds of transition metals. This unique book gives a useful overview of the subject, and suggests new directions for future research. The detailed coverage of the subject matter provides much valuable information to the investigator who is actively engaged in antitumor research. This comprehensive resource is written for a broad, heterogeneous audience, including chemists, biologists and physicians involved in the synthesis, testing, evaluation and clinical application of new antitumor drugs.

(This two-volume text reviews the field and pinpoints the ...)
This two-volume text reviews the field and pinpoints the types of organometallics which are most promising for further exploration. Although no organometallic compound is currently in therapeutic use, the success of Cisplatin and related platinum complexes shows the promise that some organometallics may have equal or superior therapeutic value. Many have already been tested as cancerostatics, and some have exhibited remarkable activity. Thus, new paths of exploration have been opened in this field, and it is important at this stage to analyze these results and evaluate the prospects. The book is intended as a communication link between the synthetic chemist and the physician involved in testing and therapy. It also provides a better and more beneficial understanding of organometallics for the nonchemist involved in the long process from the chemist's bench to the clinician's syringe.
