One of the first ‘refuseniks’. Tried to exercise his right to emigrate in April 1971 and lost his job as a mathematician at one of the scientific research institutes of GOSPLAN, where he was employed. Pioneer of the Hebrew teaching movement in the USSR. He was arrested as a parasite and sent to Siberian labour camps.
Spent 7 years in prison. Brought several libel cases against Soviet journalists and their respective papers. After a 16-yearlong international campaign left the USSR for Israel in December 1987.
