From 1892 in Sot-Democratic movement. From 1903 Bolshevik; returned to Russia and engaged in trade-union and Party work. Worked in Saratov, then Saint St. Petersburg.
1905-1907 helped edit Bolshevik publications. 1905 attended 5th (London) Russian Social-Democratic Workers’ Party Congress. 1905-1910 member, Central Committee, Russian Social-Democratic Workers’ Party.
1910-1914 in exile; 1914 switched from Bolsheviks to Mensheviks and supported Plekhanov. 1917-1919 sided with Novaya zhizn’ (Ncvy Life) group. Opposed Lenin; summer 1917 went abroad with deleg of Menshevik All-Russian Ccntr Executive Committee and remained there after 1917 October Revol.
1920 reconciled with Bolsheviks and admitted to Russian Communist Party (Bolsheviks). 1921 returned to Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics.
