Hersey, Ira Greenlief was born on March 31, 1858 in Hodgdon, Maine, United States. Son of Samuel B. and Elizabeth (White) Hersey.

Educated Ricker Classical Institute, Houlton.

Career

Began practice of law in Houlton, 1880. Candidate of Prohibition Party for government, 1886. Member Maine House of Representatives, 1909-1910, Senate, 1913-1916 (president 1915-1916).

Member 65th to 70th Congresses (1917-1929), 4th Maine District. In practice of law, Washington, since 1929.
