Opposition Whip, 1977-1982. Opposition Spokesperson on Finance, 1977-1982. Deputy Leader of the Opposition, 1979-1985.

Fijian representative at the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, conferences in Australia, 1969, and in Jamaica, 1978. Minister for Indian Affairs, October 1987, re-appointed December 1989. Professional career: Principal, D.A.V. Girls College, Suva, 1956-1962.

Achievements

  • In the end Irene Narayan won easily by 5,676 votes to 2,779 votes. In the September, 1977 election, the "Flower" faction won most of the seats reserved for Indians, Jai Ram Reddy became the Leader of the Opposition and Irene Narayan played an influential role within the "Flower" faction.
