Career
He is also a former Montreal city councillor. The company owns bowling alleys in Montreal, Ottawa and Kingston. Irving Grundman served as General Motors of the Canadiens from 1978 to 1983.
He became General Motors after Sam Pollock retired.
He was responsible for drafting future National Hockey League stars such as Guy Carbonneau and Chris Chelios, though was also responsible for passing on Montreal Juniors star, and future National Hockey League superstar Denis Savard in the draft (in favor of Doug Wickenheiser). He was replaced as General Motors by Serge Savard in 1983.
After his hockey career ended he became a Montreal city councillor, a career which ended with his retirement after he, along with René Dussault, pleaded guilty to municipal corruption in September 2004 in relation to the rezoning of land. Grundman was later sentenced to 23 months of community service and fined $50,000.00.
