Worked on Crawford statues for pediment of the United States Capital, 1855-1856. Executed statue for West. West. Corcoran’s Mausoleum, Georgetown, District of Columbia, 1857. Established studio at Rome, Italy, 1858.
Executed many works in sculpture.
Mfd. art tiles extensively. Devoted to ideal sculpture.
Elected academician Pennsylvania Academy Fine Arts, 1860. Director life and antique department, 1860-1863.
Medals for ceramic arts, Centennial Exposition, 1876, Paris Exposition, 1878.
Special commissioner on ceramics, Paris Exposition, 1878, by United States Government and State of New Jersey. Director many schools for teaching fine and industrial arts and the sciences. Active in educational political and industrial reforms.
Lectured extensively on these subjects.
Was member Ruskin Industrial Coöperative Association Chautauqua lecturer on ceramic arts, et cetera Invented the Perfected Rotary Press, 1906-1907, safety auto wheel, 1909.
