In 1885 Mr. Ditmars joined William Schickel in forming a partnership and established an office at 111 Fifth Avenue. In the following years the firm was widely known as architects of Catholic churches and institutional build¬ings, noted examples of which were: completion of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart at Newark, N. J. (begun in 1898 by Jeremiah O'Rourke); Church of St. Ignatius Loyola, Park Avenue and 84th Street, New York; Catholic Chapel at the Bellevue Hospital, New York; Orphan Asylum at Kingsbridge, N. Y.; School for the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Montclair, N. T.; Santa Monicas Church, 79th Street and Lexington Avenue and St Gabrielle’s Church at New Rochelle, N.Y., In addition Mr. Ditmars designed a number of buildings at the Nenox Hiil Hospital, New York, St. Vincent’s Hospital, and St. Joseph's Seminary at Dunwoodie.
A former member and elected a Fellow of the American Institute in 1895, Mr. Ditmars was a past president and active member of the Brooklyn Chapter.
