Began practice in Denver, 1880. Assistant United State Attorneys, 1883-1885 (state) district attorney, 1888-1892 (tried many noted cases, principal of which was that against Doctor T. Thatcher Graves, charged with poisoning Mistress Josephine Barnaby, a rich widow of Providence, Rhode Island. Crime committed by sending poisoned whisky through United States mails.

Graves convicted, and later committed suicide in jail). Company attorney, 1893-1894.
