Started work at age 13. 1912 active in revol movement in Minsk and Dvinsk. From 1913 Bolshevik propagandist in Kiev.
From 1914 underground Party work in Russian Army. After 1917 February Revol member. Kiev Executive Committee.
Secretary, Kiev City Russian Social-Democratic Workers’ Party Committee. Shortly before 1917 October Revol joined Kiev City Revol Committee. Helped lead January 1918 armed rebellion in Kiev.
At Taganrog Party Conference elected member, Organization(s) Bureau to Prepare 1st Congress of Communist Party (Bolsheviks) Ukraine. At 1st and 2nd Congresses of Communist Party (Bolsheviks) Ukraine elected member, Central Committee, Communist Party (Bolsheviks) Ukraine. 1918-1919 helped found Bolshevik underground in Odessa and prepare armed rebellion against Directorate in Khar’kov and Yckaterinoslav.
