On 21 March 2016, she reached her highest Women's Tennis Association singles ranking of 242 whilst her best doubles ranking was 242 on 23 July 2012. Shinikova was born in 1991 in Sofia. Shinikova started playing tennis at the age 7. In 2009 Shinikova made her pro debut at an International Tennis Federation $25000 event. Since then Shinikova is playing on the International Tennis Federation pro curcit and in 2015 she topped the 2015 leaderboard winning 8 titles thru the year. Singles: 25 (14–11) Doubles: 41 (23–18) Since then she has a 2–2 singles record and a 4–1 doubles record (6–3 overall).
