Education
Ishii Juji studied medicine briefly at Okayama but gave it up to devote his full time to the welfare of orphans.
Career
Ishii Juji founded an orphanage in Okayama which rendered great services to orphans during the Mino earthquake (1891). When the Tohoku Famine hit the area, he introduced a system whereby the rich could look after the poor children (1905). His orphanage soon had a total of 1,200 children and he founded a branch in Chausubara, Miyazaki Prefecture, where the orphans could also secure agricultural training.
Ishii Juji founded Aizomebashi Nursery and a Night School in Osaka slums (1909), which grew to become the Ishii Memorial Aizome-en.
Religion
Ishii Juji was baptized a Christian early in life.
