Ishikawa Masamochi was the proprietor of tavern named Nultaya in Nihonbashi, To kyo, as the Shogunate was doubtful of his business, he was driven out of Tokyo and came to reside in Fuchu where he turned writer. Was a master of Japanese classics and wrote several novels and essays, including Gagen Shuran, Miyako-no-teburi and Shimi-no-sumika.
