İsmail Ogan began wrestling in the traditional Turkish yağlı güreş (oil wrestling) and then switched over to sports wrestling in 1950 after he was discovered by Yaşar DoğUniversity Soon, he was admitted to the national team and received training by the renowned wrestlers Celal Atik and Yaşar DoğUniversity He retired from the active sports in 1964 after having represented his country 52 times successfully at international competitions and served then for 10 more years as the regional trainer.
İsmail Ogan is married and has two children.
