Isobel Morin was born on February 26, 1928, in Patchogue, New York, United States. She is the daughter of Fred and Frances (Costello) Varney.
Isobel received a Bachelor of Arts from Good Counsel College in 1949 and a Master of Arts from the University of Maryland in 1991.
Isobel Morin was a federal employee for thirty years. She began as claims representative at Patchogue, New York district office in 1951, later worked at Morristown, New Jersey and Hempstead, New York offices and then was transferred to central office, Baltimore, Maryland in 1958, and became social insurance specialist.
Morin began writing books in earnest after her retirement and acquisition of a history degree from the University of Maryland. However, her years as an insurance specialist with the United States Social Security Administration gave her a “good worm’s-eye view of the political system.” Morin's first book, Women of the U.S. Congress, contains profiles of eleven of the one hundred and fifty-nine women who have served in either the United States House of Representatives or the Senate. Her other biographical works include Women Who Reformed Politics and Women Chosen for Public Office.
Her work, Days of Judgment: The World War II War Crimes Trials, raises important questions for students beginning their study of political processes. Morin covers perhaps the most complicated of all American constitutional processes in Impeaching the President. Morin's sixth book, Our Changing Constitution: How and Why We Have Amended It, presents a history and analysis of the document that defines and restricts American government. Politics, American Style: Political Parties in American History, appeared in 1999 and Morin’s future plans include revisiting the impeachment topic to cover the 1998 trial of Bill Clinton.
