Career
First novel, Krushenie Imperii, 1938. Was victim of the Gulag. Gained fame in 1964 during Khrushchev’s thaw when the magazine Novyi Mir published his anti-Stalinist novel, Khranitel’ Drevnostei.
Other books: Fakultet Nenuzhnykh Veshchei, Paris, 1978, and Khranitel’ Drevnostei, Paris, 1978, which has been translated into English and French. Became a cult figure among dissidents in the 196070s.
