1890-1893 studied at Faculty of Mathematics, Moscow University. 1909 graduate Saint St. Petersburg Academy of Arts.
1894 soon after joining Faculty of Architecture. Saint St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, expelled for involvement in student riots. 1905, after spending some time abroad and passing builders’ examination, returned to Academy of Arts.
1909, after graduate, was sent on a tour of Greece, Egypt, Italy, France and Germany: his bestknown pre-Revol works are Polovtsev's house on Kamenny Island and Abamalek-Lazarev’s house on the embankment of the Mo ka River, Saint St. Petersburg. Took part in numerous architectural competitions. From 1915 member, Saint St. Petersburg Academy of Arts.
1918-1919 took part in competitions for the Workers’ Palace in Narva distr, the Leningrad Crematorium and various memorials. 1922 contributed to designs for All-Union Agric Exhibition. 1925 took part in competition for Bryansk House of Soviets.
1924 designed ’’Arcos” House, Moscow. 1925 designed Sverdlovsk Indiana Bank. 1927-1930 worked on design for Ivanovo-Voznesensk Polytech Institute.
Also designed a number of sanatoria. However, most of these projects were never realized. 1919-1921 mang, Architectural Studio, Leningrad Soviet.
1929 moved to Moscow, where he look charge of designing and building an office block on Dzerzhinskiy Street which house the Minister of Internal Affairs and the Komitet Gosudarstvennoy Bezopasnosti (Committee for State Security). From 1933 mang of a planning and architectural studio, Moscow Soviet. Designed buildings of Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics People's Commissariat of Communications, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics People's Commissariat of Heavy Indiana, Red Army Theater.
Planned reconstruction of Red Square. Designed Ashkhabad Theater and Radio House. Designed Sanatorium of Commission for Aid to Scientists, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Council of People's Commissar, Sochi.
Also designed Svcrdlov Square and Red Gates stations, Moscow Subway. 1934-1938 designed and built Ukraine Government House, Kiev. 1916-1924 professor, 2nd Polytcch Institute.
1918-1929 and 1934-1935 taught at Leningrad Academy of Arts. Trained such famous Soviet architects as Gegello, Trotskiy, Polyakov, Abrosimov, Minkus, Rozhin, Khryakov, Fomin junior and Levinson. Wrote several works on history and theory of architecture.
