From 1919 in Red Army. Fought in Civil War; during 1930's regt commander, Moscow Proletarian Division. 1938-1939 commander, 57th Rifle Division, Transbaykal Military district, then in Mongolia.
1939 fought at Khalkin Gol in Mongolia. 1939-1941 commander, 17th Rifle Corps. 1941-1945 commander, 59th Army.
Deputy commander, 1st Guards Cavalry Corps. Commander of a mobile group on Western Front. Commander, 24th, 70th, 53rd and 4th Guards Armies.
1941-1942 fought in battles on Volkhov River. 1942 fought in battle of Stalingrad. 1943 fought in battle of Kursk.
1944 took part in Kirovograd and Korsun’-Shevchenkovskiy operations. After World War 2 in retirement.
