Ivan GORSKY, USSR Geologist and paleontologist. Full member, USSR Academy of Science, since 1946; Professor, Leningrad Mining Institute, since 1935.


GORSKY, Ivan was born in 1893.


1943-1946 corresponding member, USSR Academy of Science. Since 1954 Chairman, All-Union Paleontological Society. Expert on geological of Urals, particularly Ural coal deposits.

Helped compile geological maps of Urals (1939), European Region of USSR (1948), Caucasus (1948) and a survey map of presumed coal deposits in USSR (1956). 1943-1947 Director, AllUnion Geology Research Institute. 1947-1952 Chairman, Presidium, Karelo-Finnish Branch of USSR Academy of Science.

1950-1960 Director, Laboratory of Coal Geology, USSR Academy of Science.
