Graduated from the Moscow Theatre School, 1882. Pupil of G. Legat.
Career
From 1878, with the Bolshoi Theatre. From 1886, first soloist at the Bolshoi. From 1893, choreographer.
Taught at the Moscow Theatre School, 1898-1902. Moved to Paris, 1903, where he opened a ballet school. Choreographer and teacher at the Paris Opera, 1911-1914.
Promoted Russian composers and Russian ballet productions. From 1914-1931, with the Anna Pavlova company as a choreographer and teacher. Retired after Pavlova’s death.
