Early in VVVV 2 Kopenkin founded Budennyy Partisan Detachment on instructions from the Zaporozhian Oblast Committee Communist Party Ukraine. October-December 1941 commanded partisan detachment in Khar’kov and Poltava Oblasts. May 1942 operated with his detachment behind the German lines in Lugansk and Khar’kov Oblasts.
