Career
Grom 1934 associate, Institute of Organic Chemistry, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences. 1946-1953 correspondent member, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences. From 1947 professor, Lomonosov Institute of Fine Chemical Tcchnol, Moscow.
Did research on acetylene and its derivatives. Synthesized numerous vinylethyl carbinols and discovered their conversion into divinyl ketones with subsequent cyclization into cyclopentenones and heterocyclic ketones, which led to the development of the anesthetic “promedol”. Developed widely-used carbinol glue.
Also obtained steroid compounds related to androgenous hormones.
