Ivan Voronin was born in 1840 in Durnoe village, Russian Empire (nowadays Russia) in a peasant family. Circa 1843 he moved with his parents to the city of Saratov.

He served in a bakery, was a clerk in a steamship company, attorney at one of the trading houses (the city of Astrakhan). Published since 1863, mainly in provincial publications. As a poet imitated A.V. Koltsov and I.S. Nikitin (Voronin wrote a critical biographical sketch about him).Presumably he was in Voronezh, where he published a series of poems in the newspaper Voronezh sheet.
