Chief-of-staff of the Cossack Ataman Dutov. Took part in the Civil War, fighting with Admiral Kolchak against the Red Army. Fled to China. Returned from China in 1927 under an amnesty proclaimed by the Soviet government.
A few months later, arrested and sent to the Solovki concentration camp. Managed to escape and return to China.
