Ivan Zheltovsky was an architect, a professor, an academi­cian of the USSR Academy of Architecture, a recipient of the State Prize of the USSR, Ho­noured Artist of Belarus, and Honoured Aca­demician of the Academy of Sciencesof Belarus. His numerous designs and buildings as well as his theoretical views (on issues of the classical in art) have played an important role in the development of architecture during the first half of the 20th century.

Career

In the 1940s, Zheltovsky’s Neo-Classicism was implemented in a number of houses along main streets of Moscow.

Achievements

  • In 1902, Zheltovsky won a competition for planning the Racing Association house in Skakovaya Avenue in Moscow.

  • In collaboration with the architect A.V.Shchusev, Zheltovsky developed a plan of Moscow reconstruction (1918-1923).

  • He created a general plan of the All-Russian Agriculture and Cottage Industry Exhibition in Moscow and a number of its buildings, including the entrance triumphal arch (1923).

  • Academician of the Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Architecture (1939).

  • Honoured Artist of Belarus(1944).

  • Honoured Academician of the Academy of Sciences of Belarus (1947).
