Ivan Andreevich graduated from Kaluga Theological School (1860), studied in Kaluga Theological Seminary (1860-1864). Then he entered Saint Petersburg Medical and Surgical Academy (now the S.M. Kirov Military Medical Academy) (1864-1867; dismissed by request) and at the Saint Petersburg Law University (now Saint Petersburg State University Faculty of Law ) (1867 1869; did not graduate).
The main occupation was journalism. In 1866 Ivan Andreevich published court reports in the "Saint Petersburg Vedomosti". Collaborated with the "Petersburg newspaper", in 1876-1881 was its editor. He constantly wrote editorials, mainly on foreign policy. Ivan Andreevich led the weekly section "Minute Conversation", where, covering the internal situation of the country, he denounced student unrest and the activities of revolutionaries, condemning freedom of the press, admired the colonial policy of Tsarism. In 1906 Ivan Andreevich collaborated with the newspaper "Russkoye Gosudarstvo", then again with "Petersburg Gazeta".
Ivan Andreevich called himself a supporter of Aksakov and a conservative. He wrote that he has "weakness and courage to love the fatherland more than a man in general and the Jewish one in particular." Admired the colonial policy of Tsarism.
