Since childhood, he visited the holy places with his father, went on a pilgrimage to Kiev. In 1806 he fled from the landowner F. Kuzmin, became a novice in Kiev Pechersk Lavra. Repeatedly punished as a fugitive peasant, forcibly returned to the landowner.
Ioann Sezenovsky was blessed to be a monk in Zadonsky Monastery by Bishop Epiphanius (Kanivetsky). From 1817 he lived in village Sezenovo, Lebedyansky district, Tambov province, in the estate of the landowner Prince F.N. Nesvitsky in the retreat.
He was recognized by the people as a starets, healed the afflicted. Founder of the Sezenovsky nunnery.
After the death, the place of exploits and the repose of Ioann Sezenovsky attracted the pilgrims as a miracle and healing.He was canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church in 1988 as a locally honored saint.
