Hamilton and Toronto, Ontario. Edinburgh. Graduated at Knox College, Toronto, 1887. Edited The Knox College Monthly during College course and until 1891.
Ordained to ministry of the Presbyterian Church, and inducted pastor of Knox Church, Saint Thomas, Ontario, 1891. Resigned pastoral charge, 1896, and removed to Toronto to become first editor of The Westminster, a religious monthly magazine. Subsequently acquired the Canada Presbyterian, The Presbyter, The Presbyterian Review, and The Western Presbyterian, which were consolidated 1277 under his editorship and issued as The Presbyterian, a weekly devoted to Presbyterian Church interests.
Principal of the Presbyterian Ladies’ College, 1896-1901.
Appointed by Ontario Government to serve for six years on first Board of Governors of the University of Toronto, 1906. Doctor of Laws Honourable Glas.
Member first Imperial Press Conference, London, 1909. Managing Editor of The Globe, Toronto, since 1902.
