He studied architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, being graduated at the age of twenty-two.
In New York he found employment as a draftsman with Richard M. Hunt and later with McKim, Mead & White.
Returning to Boston well qualified to begin practice for himself, in 1888 he formed a partnership with his two sons, and in the following years the firm became well known in Boston and vicinity. Mr. Beal’s most important works included several buildings in Plymouth County, Mass., among which were the County Hospital and Jail, and at Brockton, Executive Building and Club House for the Walk-Over Shoe Company. In addition the firm designed numerous residences throughout New England.
In 1888 he formed a partnership with his two sons, and in the following years the firm became well known in Boston and vicinity.
