Background
BENSON, J. Hawtrey was born in 1843. Son of late Professor Charles Benson, Master of Arts, Doctor of Medicine, Trinity College, Dublin, ex-President, Royal College, of Surgeons, Ireland, and Maria, daughter of Maunsell Andrews, Justice of the Peace of Rathenny, King’s County, and 2nd wife, Mary Hawtrey, a descendant of the Hawtreys of Ruislip, Middlesex.
Education
Studied at University of Dublin. First Honours in Mathematics, Trinity College, Dublin, and graduated 1864. Bachelor of Medicine 1865.
Bachelor of Arts.
Doctor of Medicine.
Career
Physician to the City of Dublin Hospital (afterwards entitled the Royal City of Dublin Hospital), 1868. Uuiv. Dublin; L. R.C.S.I. Fellow Royal College of Physicians, Ireland.
Consulting Physician for Ireland to His (or Her) Majesty’s Colonial Office. Consulting Physician, Royal City of Dublin Hospital. And to the Monkstown Hospital.
Fellow Academy of Medicine, Ireland. Sometime examiner in Royal College of Physicians, and in the University of Dublin.
