Career

Joined Liverpool Albion staff, 1872. Served on it for few months. Then received appointment on Scotsman staff

Did special work relating to land tenure, crofter conditions in Highlands.

Went to London 1881, when Gallery of House of Commons opened to provincial press, to take management of London Office of Scotsman, and to act as Parliamentary correspondent. Held tlm appointment for 25 years.

Thus had intimate knowledge of Parliamentary affairs for quarter of century. Editor of the Scotsman since ! 1905.

Father journalist, and one of pioneers of j journalism in Scotland outside its capital.

Club: Devonshire.

Interests

• Golf, fishing; was one of the founders of the Tooting Bee Club, London, and served on Committee of Parliamentary golf tournament from its initiation till 1905.
