B ART LET, J. Vernon was born on August 15, 1863 in Scarborough. Son of Reverend G. D. Bartlet, Master of Arts (Aber.), sometime headmaster of Mill Hill School.

Education

Studied at father’s private school at Highgate. Highgate School, 1877-1882. Exeter College Oxford (Scholar), 1882.

First Class Honour Moderations, 1SS3.

2nd class Liter» Humaniores, 18S6. 1st class Theology, 1887.

Senior Greek Testament (Canon Hall) Prizeman, 1889. Master of Arts (Oxfordshire).

Doctor of Divinity (Saint Andr.).

Career

After studying under Doctor Fairbairn for three years, he became first Fellow of Mansfield College, and began lecturing on Church History with the opening of the College buildings in autumn 1889, remaining senior tutor in residence till 1900. Professor of Church History in Mansfield College, Oxford, since 1900.
