Rugby union career
Beames, who was born in Aberbeeg, originally played rugby union for Newport Reconstruction Finance Corporation, his most notable match being the club"s victory over the touring South African team in 1912. In the 1912/13 season at Newport he played in 38 games scoring a single try. He joined Halifax in 1913 for a signing-on fee of £100 (based on increases in average earnings, this would be approximately £34,240 in 2013).
International honours
Jack Beames died in Halifax, and is a Halifax Hall Of Fame Inductee.
