Jack Haynes studied to be a mining engineer at the University of Minnesota, from which he was graduated in 1908.
In 1921 Jack Haynes took over his father's concession at Yellowstone National Park, making available to the public books, pamphlets, souvenirs and memorabilia of Yellowstone. He acted as director of a museum in the park headquarters, and worked for his father from 1897 on, becoming president of Haynes, Inc., and eventually taking over the company. Jack Haynes gave various lectures concerning Yellowstone, including one entitled "The Evolution of Photography in Yellowstone National Park."
Jack Haynes also made miniature geyser models, which have been displayed at expositions in the U.S. A talented musician, he played the mandolin skillfully.
