Jacob Boelen was associated in his business in the shop on lower Broadway with his brother Henricus and later with his son Henricus. He was admitted a freeman in 1698 but before that time had begun his public services, having been an assessor for the North Ward 1685-1694, having been appointed "brant-master" in 1689, and being alderman from the North Ward in 1695, 1697, 1698, 1701. His name was signed to a petition for the restoration of the bolting monopoly to New York. His will was proved March 23, 1729.
Boelen was married on May 21, 1679, to Catharina Klock.
