Fawcett, Jacob was born on April 9, 1847 in Benton, Wisconsin, United States. Son of Joshua and Margaret (Nicholson) Fawcett.


Common school education.


Enlisted at 14 in Company I, 16th Wisconsin Infantry, 1861. Wounded at Shiloh, April 6, 1862, and again in front of Atlanta, July 21, 1864. Admitted to Illinois bar, 1874.

Member city council, Galena, 4 years. Company judge Jo Daviess Company, Illinois, 1886-1887 (resigned). Removed to Omaha, Nebraska, 1887.

Judge District Court, Omaha District, 1896-1904. Commissioner Supreme Court of the Nebraska, 14 months, 1907-1908. The American Association For Justice Suprme Court of Nebraska, 1908-1915.

Lecturer in College of Law, University of Nebraska, 9 years. Trustee German-English Normal School, Galena, Illinois On invitation of Wisconsin delivered dedicatory oration on battlefield of Shiloh, April 7, 1906, at dedication of monument erected by state of Wisconsin in memory of her soldiers who fell there.
