Studied at Felstead School. Privately.
Career
Entered the Admiralty (competitive exam.) 1859. Private secretary to Lord Dutferin (Chancellor of Duchy of Lancaster), 1869. Accompanied in same capacity Lord Duflerin, Governor-General, to Canada, 1872.
Private secretary to Right Honourable W. H. Smith, Member of Parliament (First Lord of Treasury, 1887-1891), 1880-1891. Estate commissioner to Lord Iveagli, Knight of the Order of St. Patrick, 1892-190S. A trustee of the Guinness Trust for housing the poor in London, and the similar Iveagh Trust in Dublin.
Honorary treasurer of the Lister Institute of Preventive Medicine, London. ; Justice of the Peace.
