Jacob Joshua Creskoff, Russian consultant engineer. Served in Engineers S.A.T.C., United States Army, 3 months, 1918; Fellow American Concrete Institute.


Creskoff, Jacob Joshua was born on March 30, 1900 in Belz, Russia. Son of Louis and Tillie (Lerner) Creskoff.


Brought to the United States, 1905. Graduate Gratz College, Philadelphia, 1919. Bachelor of Science in C.E., Towne Science School (University of Pennsylvania), 1922.


Made investigation of Washington Monument for spalling and aseismic qualities. Consultant to departments of the United States Government on design of earthquake-proof buildings, and on recording and analysis of structural vibrations, including aeronautical structures. Devised first practical dynamic system of aseismic design.

Method of distribution of wind and earthquake forces to walls and columns. Method of using site vibrations as check on geological findings. Method of using periods of vibration of structures as guide to end fixities and to detect invisible damage.

Vice president Vacuum Concrete Corporation, 1938-1942, 46-50. Resident vice president McCloskey & Company, 1942-1946. President Thermo-Fluid Corporation, 1950-1959, Vacuum Concrete Corporation of America, 1959-1969.

Chairman of the Board Aerovac Corporation, 1969-1972. Guest professor Graduate School Engineering, Villanova U., 1962-1972.
