Gubbels, Jacobus Leonardus was born on July 31, 1896 in Groningen, Holland. Son of Johanes Jacobus and Fenna (Grosman) Gubbels.

Education

Educated School of Botany and Art, Groningen, Holland, 1912-1914, Kunst and Gewerbe Schule, Bielfeld, Germany, 1914-1916.

Career

Came to the United States, 1923, naturalized, 1934. Horticultural adviser, Sumatra, Dutch East Indies, 1917-1922. Designer of City of Bielfeld, Germany, 1922-1923.

With S. R. DeBoer, landscape architect, Denver, Colorado, 1923-1927. Consultant landscape architect, Houston and Austin, Texas, 1927-1933. Director roadside development for Texas Highway Department, 1933-1947.

Private practice from 1947, planner Padre Island in Gulf of Mexico. Director urban planning, Texas Highway Department from January 1, 1943. Principal Jac. L. Gubbels & Associates, Cons., Austin, from 1952.

President Business Property Analysis Service. Agent for imports of Dutch building materials from Netherlands.
