Charon studied at the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique (CNSAD).
Jacques Charon made his debut in 1941 at the Comédie-Française and remained a member of the company throughout his career, performing more than 150 roles in classical and modern repertoire.
In addition to theatre work, Charon directed the feature film A Flea in Her Ear in 1968 and the television film Monsieur Pompadour in 1973. Charon also performed the role of Spalanzani in the 1971 Decca recording of The Tales of Hoffmann.
Charon worked in theatre and screen productions until his death in 1975 in Paris.
