The technology and clinical developments of cardiac pacing have undergone profound changes in the last few years. This book reviews some of these recent advances and provides insightful expert perspectives about where the field is heading, with emphasis on future goals. It documents the growing importance of pacing in the treatment of various cardiomyopathies, heart failure and nonbradycardiac conditions. Several chapters are devoted to detailed descriptions of new techniques, such as pacing from unconventional sites, multisite pacing and triple/quadruple chamber pacing for optimizing cardiac function. Many other topics, including advanced programmability, telemetry, and the diagnostic capabilities of pacemakers are also explicitly explored.
