Jakuchu Ito was born on March,2 in 1716, he was the son of a green grocer of Kyoto; he was originally named Jokin.
First he studied at the Kano school of art and then modeled his paintings after the Chinese masters of the Ming dynasty.
Late in life he became a Buddhist under the guidance of Hakujun-Osho of the Obaku Sect.
