(A #1 bestseller from coast to coast, Den of Thieves tells...)
A #1 bestseller from coast to coast, Den of Thieves tells the full story of the insider-trading scandal that nearly destroyed Wall Street, the men who pulled it off, and the chase that finally brought them to justice. Pulitzer Prize–winner James B. Stewart shows for the first time how four of the eighties’ biggest names on Wall Street—Michael Milken, Ivan Boesky, Martin Siegel, and Dennis Levine —created the greatest insider-trading ring in financial history and almost walked away with billions, until a team of downtrodden detectives triumphed over some of America’s most expensive lawyers to bring this powerful quartet to justice. Based on secret grand jury transcripts, interviews, and actual trading records, and containing explosive new revelations about Michael Milken and Ivan Boesky written especially for this paperback edition, Den of Thieves weaves all the facts into an unforgettable narrative—a portrait of human nature, big business, and crime of unparalleled proportions.

(Sensible advice and caring encouragement on raising boys ...)
Sensible advice and caring encouragement on raising boys from the nation’s most trusted parenting authority, Dr. James Dobson. With so much confusion about the role of men in our society, it’s no wonder so many parents and teachers are asking questions about how to bring up boys. Why are so many boys in crisis? What qualities should we be trying to instill in young males? Our culture has vilified masculinity and, as a result, an entire generation of boys is growing up without a clear idea of what it means to be a man. In the runaway bestseller Bringing Up Boys, Dr. Dobson draws from his experience as a child psychologist and family counselor, as well as extensive research, to offer advice and encouragement based on a firm foundation of biblical principles. (This new edition is part of Dr. James Dobson’s Building A Family Legacy initiative.)

( While the 1950s have been popularly portrayed-on televi...)
While the 1950s have been popularly portrayed-on television and in the movies and literature-as a conformist and conservative age, the decade is better understood as a revolutionary time for politics, economy, mass media, and family life. Magazines, films, newspapers, and television of the day scrutinized every aspect of this changing society, paying special attention to the lifestyles of the middle-class men and their families who were moving to the suburbs newly springing up outside American cities. Much of this attention focused on issues of masculinity, both to enforce accepted ideas and to understand serious departures from the norm. Neither a period of "male crisis" nor yet a time of free experimentation, the decade was marked by contradiction and a wide spectrum of role models. This was, in short, the age of Tennessee Williams as well as John Wayne. In Men in the Middle, James Gilbert uncovers a fascinating and extensive body of literature that confronts the problems and possibilities of expressing masculinity in the 1950s. Drawing on the biographies of men who explored manhood either in their writings or in their public personas, Gilbert examines the stories of several of the most important figures of the day-revivalist Billy Graham, playwright Tennessee Williams, sociologist David Riesman, sex researcher Alfred Kinsey, Playboy literary editor Auguste Comte Spectorsky, and TV-sitcom dad Ozzie Nelson-and allows us to see beyond the inherited stereotypes of the time. Each of these stories, in Gilbert's hands, adds crucial dimensions to our understanding of masculinity the 1950s. No longer will this era be seen solely in terms of the conformist man in the gray flannel suit or the Marlboro Man.

The VirtNet combined the most cutting-edge technology and the most sophisticated gaming for a full mind-body experience. And it was Michael’s passion. But now every time Michael sinks, he risks his life. The games are over. The VirtNet has become a world of deadly consequences, and Kaine grows stronger by the day. The Mortality Doctrine—Kaine’s master plan—has nearly been realized, and little by little the line separating the virtual from the real is blurring. If Kaine succeeds, it will mean worldwide cyber domination. And it looks like Michael and his friends are the only ones who can put the monster back in the box—if Michael can figure out who his friends really are. (Supported by state-of-the-art motion analysis research, "...)
Supported by state-of-the-art motion analysis research, "short game guru to the pros" James Sieckmann unveils his "finesse wedge" swing -- a proven and pragmatic way to learn, practice, and perform with each wedge in the bag in every situation -- and shows players that upgrading their short game is possible. Since James Sieckmann first revealed his short-game methods two decades ago, he has amassed a cultlike following of more than seventy PGA and LPGA Tour disciples and has been dubbed the “short-game guru to the pros” (GOLF Magazine). Using his system, several of Sieckmann’s students have become some of the best short-game players of the modern era. A two-time winner on the PGA Tour jumped 117 spots in the Sand Save rankings in one season; another client quickly jumped 81 spots in Scrambling percentage. The benefits of a good short game are undisputed. Unfortunately, players at all levels fail to develop effective short-game skills because instructors teach the exact opposite of the correct technique. Sieckmann studied the greatest short-game players in recent memory—including Seve Ballesteros, Corey Pavin, and Raymond Floyd—to develop a proven and pragmatic way to learn, practice, and perform with each wedge in every situation. His unique observations, which were later verified by motion capture technology, work equally well for amateurs and pros. In his long-awaited first book, Sieckmann opens up his vault of secrets for all golfers. After breaking down the basics, he presents a session-by-session training and practice guide—the same one he creates for his tour clients—to help the reader develop and sustain correct habits, avoid common flaws, and master essential skills. Next, Sieckmann explains how to optimize a player’s wedge swing for every scenario. An easy-to-learn and easy-to-use system, Your Short Game Solution will be the go-to guide anywhere golf is played.

( It is 1953, the coronation year of Queen Elizabeth II ....)
It is 1953, the coronation year of Queen Elizabeth II . Sidney Chambers, vicar of Grantchester and honorary canon of Ely Cathedral, is a thirty-two-year-old bachelor. Tall, with dark brown hair, eyes the color of hazelnuts, and a reassuringly gentle manner, Sidney is an unconventional clerical detective. He can go where the police cannot. Together with his roguish friend, inspector Geordie Keating, Sidney inquires into the suspect suicide of a Cambridge solicitor, a scandalous jewelry theft at a New Year's Eve dinner party, the unexplained death of a jazz promoter's daughter, and a shocking art forgery that puts a close friend in danger. Sidney discovers that being a detective, like being a clergyman, means that you are never off duty, but he nonetheless manages to find time for a keen interest in cricket, warm beer, and hot jazz--as well as a curious fondness for a German widow three years his junior. With a whiff of Agatha Christie and a touch of G. K. Chesterton's Father Brown, The Grantchester Mysteries introduces a wonderful new hero into the world of detective fiction.

CAAN, James was born on March 26, 1939 in Bronx, New York, United States. Son of Arthur and Sophie Caan.
Student, Hofstra College. Student, Michigan State University.
The Godfather (72, Francis Coppola) was the end to Caan’s youth. He was more reserved thereafter, and likely took himself too seriously. But in the decade or so before Sonny, Caan had tried anything: a tiny piece in Inna La Douce (63, Bill's' Wilder); Lady in a Cage (64, Walter Grauman); The Glory Guys (65, Arnold Laven); Red Line 7000 (65, Howard Hawks); El Dorado (67, Hawks); Games (67, Curtis Harrington); Countdown (68, Robert Altman); Journey to Shiloh (68, William Hale); as the feebleminded footballer in The Rain People (69, Coppola); and as Rabbit Angstrom in Rabbit, Run (70, Jack S might)—if only the movies had persisted with those Updike novels. But the role that made Caan, before Sonny, was that of dying footballer Brian Piccolo for TV in Brian’s Song (70, Buzz Kulik).
He had a supporting part in T. R. Baskin (71, Herbert Boss), and after a supporting actor nomination for The Godfather, he did Cinderella Liberty (73, Mark Rvdell); Slither (73, Howard Zieff); and Freebie and the Bean (74, Richard Rush)— wayward choices. He was far better in The Gambler (74, Karel Reisz), where his energy was channeled into the story’s Dostovevskvan depths. He was briefly reprised in The Godfather, Parí II (74, Coppola), and he played Billy Rose in Funny Lady (75, Ross). Then came The Killer Elite (75, Sam Peckinpah); Rollerball (75, Norman Jewison); Harry and Walter Go to New York (76, Rydell); Another Man, Another Chance (77, Claude Leloueh); A Bridge Too Far (77, Richard Attenborough); Comes a Horseman (78, Alan ). Pakula); and Little Moon (79, Bernard Girard).
So many of these pictures wrere duds, and still Caan had not carried a successful movie. In Chapter Two (79, Robert Moore), he seemed remote from both the part and the film. In truth, he was embarked on a crisis invoKing marriage, drugs, and finances, to say nothing of his attempts to direct and complete Hide in Plain Sight (80), a touching movie about a father who risks losing his child when the stepfather disappears into the witness relocation program.
Thief (SI, Michael Mann) was a throwback to the earlier Caan, and a fine, stoic, but desperate movie—it may be the actor’s best work. Les Uns et les Autres (81, Leloueh) was a disaster, and Kiss Me Goodbye (82, Robert Mulligan) might have been taken as a verdict on Caan’s career.
He was away five years and came back markedly heavier, grayer, and sadder: but Gardens of Stone (87, Coppola) was affecting. Then came Alien Nation (88, Graham Baker), a cameo in Dick Tracy (90, Warren Beatty), and a fine performance of beleaguered authorial machismo in Misery (90, Rob Reiner). He missed warmth or plausibility as another gangster in Honeymoon in Vegas (91, Andrew Bergman), and found himself in one more major flop, For the Boys (91, Rvdell). He was in The Program (93, David S. Ward); Flesh and Bone (93, Steve Kloves).
The idea persists—not least in his mind—that Caan might have been a big star. So he is cast, and sometimes indulged, a lot. Still, he begins to gather a few nice world-weary flitters, and it is good to see him holding himself together: Tashunga (95, Nils Gaup); A Boy Called Hate (95. Mitch Mason): Bottle Rocket (96, Wes Anderson); Eraser (96, Chuck Russell); Bulletproof (96, Ernest Dickerson); This Is My Father (98, Paul Quinn); as Philip Marlowe in Poodle Springs (98, Bob Rafelson) for TV; awful in Mickey Blue Eyes (99, Kelly Makin); The Yards (00, James Gray); Luckytown Blues (00, Paul Nicholas); good in The Way of the Gun (00, Christopher McQuarrie); Viva Las Nowhere (00, Jason Bloom): In the Boom Boom Room (00, Barbara Kopple); Warden of Red Rock (01, Stephen Gyllenhaal); A Glimpse of Hell (01, Mikael Salomon); In the Shadows (01, Ric Roman Waugh); Night at the Golden Eagle (01, Adam Rifkin); City of Ghosts (02, Matt Dillon); The Lathe of Heaven (02, Philip Haas).
