Hogg became an assistant professor in pathology at McGill in 1971 and moved to the University of British Columbia (University of British Columbia) in 1977. He became a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 1974 and of the Royal Society of Canada in 1992. He is the principal investigator at the University of British Columbia James Hogg Research Centre at Saint Paul"s Hospital and professor emeritus in the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine department at University of British Columbia. Hogg has been recognized for his research into Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.
