Career
Born in Tasmania, he received a primary education before becoming a blacksmith. He was a founding member and secretary of the Tasmanian Workers" Political League, which later became the Tasmanian branch of the Australian Labor Party. In 1914, he was elected to the Australian Senate, holding the seat until 1920.
He died in 1921.
