James Hugunin attended Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles (1971), earned a Bachelor of Arts in Art from California State University, Northndge (1973), and received a Master of Fine Arts from University of California at Los Angeles (1975).
James Hugunin is the editor of The Dumb Ox, a quarterly art journal in Los Angeles which he cofounded in 1976. He also has taught art at California Lutheran College in Thousand Oaks since 1977, and has been director of the Graphic Camera Department at Mid-Ocean Motion Pictures in Hollywood since 1979. In 1979 he directed the Graphic Camera Department at Capitol Records in Hollywood, and in 1978-1979 was a graphic arts photographer (special effects) for Robert Abel and Associates on the feature film Star Trek.
