Ghana
James began his professional footballing career in 2010 with Dansoman-based First Capital Plus Premier League club, Liberty Professionals F.C. In his five-year long spell with the Accra-based club, he made a major and a rather responsible role in the midfield. His eye-catching performances for the club in the midfield led to him being named as "Unbeatable James" or "James Lampard". In the 2010-2011 Ghanaian Premier League, the balance provided by the Accra-born midfielder earned him the praises of many.
Oman
He first moved out of Ghana in 2015 to the Middle East and more accurately to Oman where on 6 September 2015, he signed a one-year contract with Sur-based, Oman Professional League club, First Rate (at Lloyd's)-Oruba South Carolina. He made his debut for the club on 8 September 2015 in a 1-1 draw against Muscat Club in the 2015-2016 Oman Professional League Cup.
He also made his Oman Professional League Cup debut on 8 September 2015 in a 1-1 draw against Muscat Club.
