He attended Ecclesfield School, in Chapeltown.
Lomas was one of the three original Billy Elliots of the original West End production of Billy Elliot the Musical. He continued performing until 7 January 2006. Lomas was featured in Strictly Dance Fever performing part of the Musical finale, and in several television interviews and short clips related to the Musical.
In July 2006 he played the title role of young blind Nicholas Saunderson in the new musical "Number Horizon" in Penistone / Northern England and was well received for his performances.
Lomas got a place at the dance and drama school "Millennium" in London, where he started his studies from September 2006 onwards. He also starred in the short film King Ponce, which debuted at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival.
He also featured in an episode of Super Sweet 16 United Kingdom as a dance partner for the party. After leaving drama school James Jacob-Lomas was in Dirty Dancing, as Swing/Understudy: Jordan.
And Toured with Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dream coat understudy Joseph.
Lomas played Espresso in Starlight Express in Bochum, Germany. He is currently in the Band Gypsy Queens based in France: vocalist and drummer.
